Unitas winners pay it forward to benefit community
A Unitas retail competition has seen its big-hearted winners use their prize for the benefit of their local community
In the lead up to Christmas, Unitas hosted a Spin to Win competition on its Plan for Profit website to provide some festive cheer. The online competition saw retailers unwrap a range of prizes, from daily instant wins to a £5,000 grand prize. Every day between 1 and 24 December, retailers could spin the wheel to win £20 and £50 Amazon vouchers. Every entry also included entry to the main prize of £5,000 that could be spent at a Unitas member depot.
The delighted winners, a husband-and-wife convenience retail duo who are Dhamecha customers, received their prize in January and pledged to use the money to stock up for their store and give back to their local community.
Agnelo and Maria De Souza, who run Trinity Food and Wine in Basildon, said: “We will spend the prize money on stock for the store, and to support our customers and the community, we will offer cheaper prices on the products we buy. We will also support our local food banks by buying and donating products too.”

This was the first time Unitas has run the Spin to Win competition, and the buying group received more than 3,400 entries and rewarded retailers with a whopping 144 instant prizes. “It’s been a huge success,” said Claire. “And, to run it at Christmas, it’s proved to be the perfect way for Unitas to give back to our members’ loyal retail customers.”
