JJ wins £3m contract to supply North East councils

JJ Foodservice has secured a £3m-per-year contract with NEPO, running across two years and covering over 300 sites across eight councils

The agreement, which includes schools, nurseries, cafés, theatres, leisure centres, civic buildings and care services, began in July 2025 and is already seeing JJ deliver a wide range of frozen foods – from bakery and desserts to poultry, fish, fruit, vegetables and plant-based options – supporting the catering needs of communities in the Northeast and Tees Valley.

Baris Kacar, chief sales officer at JJ Foodservice, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for our team. Our Newcastle team is proud to be playing a bigger role in supporting communities across the Northeast.”

Carl Telford, professional services lead at NEPO, said: “Local authorities need suppliers that deliver healthy, nutritious and affordable food while being easy and reliable to work with. We are delighted to work with JJ Foodservice, whose strong commitment to service will help us deliver quality, value and choice to the communities we serve.”

To meet the needs of the contract, JJ has added more than 100 new product lines and expanded its operations with extra drivers and night-shift staff. Its fully digitalised ordering system provides real-time stock visibility, helping to keep supply chains efficient and products always available.

This latest win builds on a strong year for JJ with other local authorities, as earlier in 2025 it secured a £750,000 contract to supply frozen foods to Bolton Local Authority, in addition to its existing grocery supply, and added grocery categories to its long-standing frozen foods contract with Leeds Local Authority.
