Advertorial: Tasty profits? Yes please…

For wholesalers looking for growth, packaging offers the ideal solution, says Amipak’s Commercial & Sustainability Director Daniel Schwitzer

There’s no doubt that quick-serve and fast-food outlets are booming as customers opt for speed and affordability over other out-of-home experiences.

The fast-casual sector has been the fastest-growing restaurant sector for the past two decades. Virtually every high street in the UK has seen a surge in fast-food outlets, such as chicken shops, as consumers embrace the ease and convenience of digital ordering and delivery platforms.

Research from Lumina Intelligence reveals that delivery and takeaway sales achieved an impressive year-on-year growth of 1.8% in May 2025, despite the challenging economic climate. Its UK Food To Go Market Report also showed that the future of food to go looks rosy, set to outpace total eating-out growth during 2025 at +3.3% (versus 2.5%).

Whether consumers are picking up a pastry, selecting a sandwich or consuming a curry, this all points to one thing: a tasty opportunity for wholesalers.

“This appetite for food to go means that foodservice wholesalers have an incredible opportunity to drive incremental sales,” says Daniel Schwitzer, Commercial & Sustainability Director, Amipak.

“Wholesalers are already supplying quick-serve and fast-casual outlets with the range of ingredients they need to make their dishes, so why not offer them packaging solutions too? Their customers are already buying it elsewhere, so it’s offering wholesalers incremental sales, while also making life easier for the customer.”

With an estimated 50,000 takeaway and fast-food outlets in the UK, packaging is clearly an essential purchase.

“For fast food, packaging is essential as operators can’t sell dishes without the right containers, so it’s a natural range extension for wholesalers in depot and online to drive up spend and make life easier for your customers at the same time.”

RIGHT RANGE

When it comes to offering the right range, it can be hard to know where to start with so many options available.

This is something the team at Amipak understand perfectly: “There is a lot of choice, but we know customers don’t want the expense or the logistics of storing countless different types of packaging for different types of food. It’s not practical to stock different options when one product can work for all types of foods, from curries and noodles to a salad, sandwich or slice of cake.

“Versatility is key and leakproof packaging that can help keep food warm or cold is invaluable for fast-food operators, regardless of what’s ordered. As a result, we sell millions of our leakproof products every week as they’re the perfect all-rounder. They can be used flexibly, depending on customer need, so it’s the ideal range to start with.”

SUSTAINABILITY

When you think of packaging, you may not make an instant connection with looking after the environment, but Amipak has a firm focus on sustainability. The family run business manufactures its own packaging in the UK, which is both recyclable and certifiable compostable.

“Sustainability has to remain a priority, even when value is brought sharper into focus,” says Daniel.

“The right products shouldn’t offer performance or sustainability – we firmly believe the right products deliver both. After all, they have to work for the customer as much as the environment.”

And, as it makes its products in the UK, Amipak can also offer wholesalers reassurance that its bestselling products will always be available. “We’re not dependent on imports, so local stock levels are unaffected by any global disruption, which we know is key to a wholesaler’s offer.”

FAMILY BUSINESS

Much like independent wholesale, Amipak prides itself on its legacy as a family business. Originally two family businesses, one which began in 1953 and one in 1965, they merged to become Amipak in 1999. While the business has grown significantly, it remains loyal to its customer-centric roots.

“As a family run business, we prioritise working in partnership,” says Daniel. “We don’t just sell products, we work closely with our customers to make sure they have the right range and we’re continually in conversation with our customers to ensure we meet demand for the latest trends or innovation.

“We understand the pressures faced by wholesalers and if you ever need to speak with us, you’ll get straight through – there’s no anonymous call centre to navigate.

“Just like wholesale, we are all passionate about our business. To us, it is personal and we strive to always deliver the best possible service – whether this is going to visit a depot to advise on the right range or offering low minimum order quantities and mixed pallets of product to alleviate risk for wholesalers.

“We pride ourselves on our flexibility and our reliability, and that we offer products that deliver for customers every single time.”
