How to win talent and motivate people

This month saw the first in a series of Wholesale News Roundtable events to bring together industry leaders and experts to discuss the major issues facing the wholesale channel today. This People Roundtable gathered HR specialists from some of the channel’s biggest players (see list of attendees) to talk about the specific challenges around recruitment, training and retention in the wholesale industry.

Chaired by Sue Husband, director of apprenticeships and delivery service at the Skills Funding Agency (part of the Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy); sponsored by e-learning specialist Bolt Learning; and hosted at East End Foods’ state-of-the-art depot in Aston, Birmingham, topics under discussion included the potential impact of Brexit on recruitment, employment issues such as the National Minimum Wage, and the National Apprenticeship Scheme and the increasing role played by technology and what impact they may have on employment in the future.

See this month’s Wholesale News for a three-page report on the discussions at the Roundtable, and you can see some of the reaction from the day, from Bidfood’s Jackie Byrne, Dominic Flanagan from Costco UK, Jason Wouhra, of Roundtable host East End Foods, and Sugro UK’s Lesley Clarke, by watching our short video.
