Knorr Standard Soups now meet the FSA 2010 salt reduction targets and conform to the new FSA Target Nutrient Specifications for schools, due to come into effect in 2008. The 17 varieties are low in fat and sugar, contain essential vitamins but no added MSG or artificial preservatives.
Therese Brook, head of the education catering service for West Sussex County Council, said: “Soup is one of the mainstay items on our menus. Certainly for our secondary schools, it’s convenient to make and the young people want to buy it – but if it doesn’t meet FSA targets, we can’t sell it to them. This move by the Knorr team is very good news.”
