Nestlé Rowntree has announced that its chocolate Smarties brand will be free from artificial colours, although the change will not affect Fruity Smarties.
Nestlé Rowntree sales communications manager Graham Walker said: “Eighty four per cent of Smarties packs are bought by adults on behalf of children. Therefore, removing artificial colours is a significant move which will provide parents with even greater assurance in choosing the Smarties brand.”
The move is highlighted by a pound;3m media campaign including TV advertising targeted at parents. The ‘no artificial colours’ message will also feature on relevant Smarties packs and display materials.
The Smarties packs free from artificial colours are: Smarties Hexatube RRP 36p, Smarties Hexatube four-pack RRP pound;1.31, Smarties Carton RRP pound;1.05, Smarties Mini Cartons RRP pound;2.36, and Smarties Hanging Bags RRP pound;1.07.
