Games add value to Easter eggs

Nestlé Rowntree has unveiled plans to help independent retailers make the most of Easter with a number of products tailored to the sector’s needs.

Filled eggs accounted for 61% of independent retailers’ Easter confectionery sales so Nestlé Rowntree will repeat its filled eggs range of Double Cream, Smarties and Milky Bar from 2005. However, new for 2006 will be a mixed outer of 72 filled eggs with 28 of each variety, with an RRP of £27.36. It is intended to reduce the outlay for retailers who would otherwise have to pay £54.72 at RRP to buy an outer of each variety.

In its special egg range Nestlé Rowntree suggests smaller stores should stock two eggs with an RRP of £4.99. The Milkybar Buckeroo Fun Egg includes a Buckeroo game, and the Yorkie Subbuteo fun egg comes with a mini subbuteo kit and a 2006 World Cup wall chart.

Nestlé Rowntree sales communications manager Graham Walker commented: “Shoppers are prepared to pay a little extra for something that has extra play value, and is therefore gift worthy.”
