Gallaher is extending its use of 14-cigarette packs to its Camel Subtle brand. It launched packs of 14 cigarettes last summer for Benson Hedges Gold and Silver.
Jeremy Blackburn, Gallaher’s trade communications manager, said the new packs provided the average consumption of 14 cigarettes a day, which was good news for retailers because it would encourage daily purchase and therefore drive footfall into stores.
He added that Camel had grown its share within the UK premium cigarette sector by 11% between February 2005 and May 2006, and performed particularly well in modern urban areas.
The new packs will be available from mid September and will have an RRP of pound;3.65.
