Wine tastings attract affluent customers

The benefits of wine tastings were highlighted by Sunder Sander of S S Londis, Leamington Spa.

He said: “Wine tastings are now a calendar event at S S Londis. With a recent National Independents’ Week tasting I sold 16 cases in a couple of hours on a Friday night. The impact of wine tasting has been a success on all fronts. It brought theatre and activity to the store. It bridged the gap between me and my staff and the customer, and put everyone on one level in a friendly vibrant atmosphere.”

He said an illustration of the success was that his store was winning new customers from an affluent area of the town which already had a Co-op that sold wine.
