Members of the Federation of Wholesale Distributors have agreed a new Code of Conduct to establish the highest professional standards in the wholesale sector.
The Code, drawn up and agreed by the FWD Council of Members, provides an assurance to customers and supplier partners that member companies trade within national and international regulatory requirements, and implement best practice throughout their operations, in particular in the fields of tax, environment, health, employee safety, product safety and competition law.
The signatories agree that they will “maintain the highest levels of integrity, business ethics and competitive fairness.”
FWD members also show their commitment to tackling the illicit trade in alcohol with an agreement to expel from their organisation any symbol retailers or buying group wholesaler members found guilty of duty fraud.
FWD chief executive James Bielby said: “With this Code of Conduct we are setting the bar high, and asking current and potential members to demonstrate they trade with integrity and professionalism at all times. If a member considers that it is no longer able to comply with this code, they must resign from the Federation.
“This agreement gives our members’ trading partners the guarantee that they are working with companies that trade fairly and openly with the goal of providing a better service to consumers through a diverse and competitive retail and foodservice infrastructure.”
