National Cuppa Day was launched by MSYS in 2008 as a marketing platform on which independent retailers can express their localness and involvement in the community. This year it will be on Wednesday June 3rd.

Original sponsors Tetley Tea and McVitie’s have been joined by Tate Lyle to boost the event which combines the friendly image associations of a cuppa and a biscuit with the community values of MSYS.

All three major brands have promoted the day with offers at wholesale level which provide the retailer with free product as a starter pack with which they can offer customers a free cuppa and a biscuit…and a chat.

As ProWholesaler went to press, sponsor representatives were working in cash and carry depots promoting the day.

Many supportive suppliers and wholesalers will be sending top people, managers and staff to help retailers in-store on the day.

NIW kits containing branded disposable cups and a cuppa guideline leaflet are now being mailed out to stores which registered on the MSYS automated call line.

The FWD PR Action Group (PRAG) which drives the campaign, is discussing how a co-ordinated consumer in-store attraction could be mounted for the MSYS National Walk Shop Day, fixed for Wednesday September 16

Campaigners believe National Cuppa Day will become a major established promotional day in the independent sector calendar given time, setting the pattern for similar national celebrations of independence.
