CJ Lang amp; Son, owners and operators of Spar Scotland, raised more than £70,000 last year for local causes and charities.
This month the company donated a cheque for £1,000 to the Tarves Playgroup , in Aberdeenshire, which over the past 40 years has provided a high quality pre-school service for children aged 2 ½ to 5 years to local residents .
The money was raised through the sale of single-use carrier bags costing customers 2p per bag. The initiative has been in place since 2008 and already raised more than £300,000 which has been invested directly into the surrounding community.
Tarves Playgroup is one of the 32 charities across Scotland to benefit from the funds raised. Cheques are donated to various campaigns from youth clubs, sports clubs, elderly care and specialist medical treatment throughout the year.
