Spar stores across the North Coast of Northern Ireland have helped raise more than £3m for children’s charity the NSPCC.
The outlets, owned by franchisee the Henderson Group, have raised a total of £600,000 since 2006, with more than £85,000 raised in the past year.
Spar staff and customers have taken part in raffles, sponsored events and store collections as well as the Causeway Golf Day and “Moustaches for Cashes”. There have also been a number of special offers on food and drinks throughout the year to raise money for the 24 hour helpline for children and young people in danger or distress.
Since the Spar/NSPCC partnership began in 2006, fundraising activities have included Easter, Halloween and Christmas parties, Stop 4 Tea events and special promotions. There is also an annual fundraiser held by Henderson Group, which this year had a Garden Party which raised £33,000.
Paddy Doody, sales and marketing director at the Henderson Group said: “Spar is at the heart of local communities and as usual our North Coast customers really got behind our fundraising. We would like to say thank you to them for helping us to raise this fantastic amount to support children and young people across the UK.
“As a business we have been passionate about supporting NSPCC. As well as in store and community activity, our corporate events such as the Garden Party raise vital funds with our suppliers and retailers digging deep through auctions, raffles and pay-to-play activities!”
Marie McGuckin from NSPCC Northern Ireland said: “Our partnership with Spar continues to be a tremendous success and staff are always keen to get stuck in to fundraising activities. With a challenging economic climate, it’s a testament to their dedication and hard work that so much money has been raised over the last 12 months.”
