Skittles is back on TV this month with an “infectious” new advert, which, says Wrigley, “shows just how contagious Skittles really are.” Forming part of the brand’s £multi-million investment for 2015, the advert aims to further fuel Skittles’ growth.
Airing from June 15, the ad sees a new character, Billy, with a body covered in Skittles – the result of having caught “Skittles Pox”. A curious friend pulls a Skittles off of his face and proceeds to eat it… she immediately comes out in Skittles Pox too. The advert, which ends with the line “Contract the Rainbow, Taste the Rainbow”, aims to prove just how “deliciously infectious” Skittles are.
Worth over £38m [Nielsen MAT w/e 18.04.15], Skittles is has grown by 10% over the last 2 years [Nielsen 2 year CAGR 18.4.2015] and this new ad, supported by integrated Facebook and Twitter campaigns, aims to drive further growth and boost sales.
Tony Lorman, Wrigley European Confections Business Unit Director, commented, “Skittles is one of the top selling confectionery brands and this latest ad shows just how infectious they are in a fun, light-hearted way and with this integrated campaign we will generate maximum exposure amongst consumers, providing wholesalers with an additional opportunity to drive sales.”
The ad forms part of a big year for Skittles in 2015, which has already seen the introduction of a new bottle format and the teaming up with Xbox to offer consumers the chance to win an Xbox One with every promotional bag sold.
