Palmer amp; Harvey customers are to get the chance to choose which local producers they’d like to see listed by the wholesaler. Visitors to its Pro-retail show (24th – 25th April 2012 at the International Centre, Telford, Shropshire) will be able to meet some of the UK’s best local producers before voting for their favourite products.
P amp;H will be working with Quality From Small Producers (QSP) to source the producers from the latter’s network. Key product categories include: Impulse; food on the go; fresh products (soups, smoothies and meal solutions); fresh meat and poultry products with local heritage; gifting solutions, such as flowers, chocolates, local wines and brews; groceries, preserves, cereals, biscuits and cakes.
Richard Hayhoe, marketing director at Palmer and Harvey said: “Consumers are increasingly looking for products made locally, with a story behind them and a strong heritage. This is something the multiples have really stepped up in the last few years, and so we’re giving independents the same opportunity their bigger competitors have.”
QSP founder Stephanie Rice added: “Customers want to be able to buy products that are different and interesting from their local store made by smaller British companies with a real passion for what they do. It builds loyalty and spend for the retailer and creates a best of the best range in-store.”
P amp;H hopes to have the most popular products in stock by May or June. Retailers will also have the opportunity to broker one-to-one exclusive deals with suppliers at the show.
