Senior changes at Makro

Makro has made further senior management changes designed to strengthen its customer focus following the board appointments announced last month.

Managing director Jürgen Schwarze now has overall responsibility for customer management, and Sam Newton, formerly head of advertising at Asda, has been recruited to further champion the customer and will report directly to Schwarze.

The customer offer in food and non-food has also been given greater emphasis with two internal promotions. Mike Baker has been appointed (acting) procurement amp; merchandising director of food and Otto van Harmelen has been appointed (acting) procurement amp; merchandising director of non food.

Schwarze commented: “The customer is the focal point of our business and the centre of everything we do. The board level appointments further demonstrate our commitment to our ensuring we have the highest quality ranges available at the most competitive price.

“We’re confident our customer-centric approach will continue to ensure that Makro UK returns to its position of strength.”
