Fifty independent retailers, spread throughout the UK, will be coached to star in the media on National Independents’ Day (NID) on June 1.
The list is being finalised by the Federation of Wholesale Distributors, organiser of the My Shop Is Your Shop campaign, in which NID is the big event.
Retailers on the list will be encouraged to speak up for their fellow independents, and their value to the local community, in the run up to and on NID.
They will be provided with guidance on how to use their local media during April and May as NID approaches. A toolkit is in preparation.
On the first NID last year, national and local media coverage was achieved on BBC Working Lunch, Radio 5 Live and 28 local radio stations throughout the country.
The target this year is to double the number of consumer hits, which was estimated in 2004 at eight million by Nexus, the consumer PR consultancy handling the campaign.
