Palmer & Harvey’s Pro-retail, the UK’s largest retail show, was this week held at the Telford International Centre.
The theme of this year’s show was “fit to compete”, to tie in with the two major sporting events taking place in the coming months: the UEFA European Championships and the Olympic Games in Rio.
Exhibiting suppliers delighted the 6,000 or so visiting retailers with some special guests, including an ex-England Captain Brian Robson, and P&H invited a host of Team GB stars including Amber Hill and Holly Bradshaw; in addition ex-racing driver Allan McNish also returned to the show.
As well as new product launches, show offers and competitions, visitors had the opportunity of attending a free presentation by P&H on upcoming EUTPD2 tobacco legislation. The wholesaler also announced a raft of new initiatives – which we’ll be outlining on this website in the coming weeks; as well as in the pages of the May issue of Wholesale News. These included Epod, an improved delivery management system (as revealed in Wholesale News in January), newspaper and magazine management programmes; improved social media advice; and Sircle, a new loyalty scheme.
The Gala Night dinner on Tuesday evening (April 260 was attended by 1600 guests, who enjoyed a carnival atmosphere and the annual Pro-retail supplier and retailer awards.
Martyn Ward, MD of Palmer and Harvey, said: “Pro-retail is a fantastic opportunity for retailers to network, take advantage of one-off show offers and learn about the latest developments in the industry. It’s the place to be to engage with over 200 suppliers, all under one roof
“The theme for this year is “Fit to Complete” to tie in with the summer’s sporting events. The Olympics and the Euro’s are a huge opportunity for retailers to capitalise on additional sales from consumers watching the games.”
