Permission for wind turbine at Philip Dennis site

Philip Dennis Foodservice has received planning permission to build a wind turbine at its Devon depot and says it is the first foodservice wholesaler in England to use wind energy to power its plant.

The Caterforce member has invested pound;1.2m in the turbine for the Ilfracombe depot and the turbine is set to be up and running by next April.

The 80m high 800k Enercon E48 will generate 100% of the depot’s electricity needs or 60% of the company’s.

John Dennis, chairman of Philip Dennis Foodservice, said: “Between 2006-9 our electricity costs rose from pound;105k to pound;170k at our Ilfracombe depot. As these costs look set to spiral further the Carbon Trust recommended we look into renewables, like wind.”
