Parfetts Cash Carry will be introducing a range of Fair Trade products across its depots in the next few weeks.
It has committed to stock 12 Fair Trade mainstream products including tea, coffee and fruit juice, but is considering widening the range to incorporate wines and biscuits.
Parfetts group trading negotiator Matthew Oxley explained: “The UK is now the biggest Fair Trade market in the world, worth over pound;140m, and has doubled over the past few years as consumers are becoming increasingly conscious about the traceability of a product and the manufacturer’s ethical behaviour.
“We believe our range of Fair Trade products will give some of our more discerning retailers a point of difference they are looking for. Obviously it is not going to appeal to all our customers as many are just looking for standard lines in tea bags and coffee, but we have had requests from retailers and believe that those interested can find a niche in the market for these premium products.”
The range will be sited in one area of the depot to ensure maximum impact and specific POS will be used to market the range. Further support will be emphasised through Landmark’s Counter Attack promotions leaflet.
