As the British wholesale and independent retail sector steps up the fight against unfair competition from the major supermarkets, delegates at this year’s conference will be able to hear the views of a top international expert on competition law.
Dublin-based Myles O’Reilly is a Harvard graduate, former managing director in the food and other industries, and a member of the EU committee on restrictive practices and dominant positions.
He has spoken on competition matters at conferences in Vienna and Paris, and advised the governments of Lithuania and Serbia on the dangers of market domination and its affects on consumer choice.
O’Reilly will be able to give a perspective on how the Irish trade has tackled the threat from the supermarket giants and EU thinking on corporations taking a dominant position in a market.
With his international experience he will also be able to assess how the UK’s Office of Fair Trading has performed in comparison with other regulators dealing with competition issues.
