An online food retailer is undercutting all the supermarkets to offer a fresh turkey for just £9.
MuscleFoodcom is matching the price of the discount supermarkets’ cheapest frozen turkey but with a fresh bird. The special deal is available to any customer entering the code FRESHNOTFROZEN at the checkout.
The website, which specialises in selling fresh meats to athletes and fitness enthusiasts, runs its own warehouse and distribution operations and now says it wants to give cash-strapped Brits the option of a fresh bird for Christmas at a fraction of the price they’d pay in the major high street food retailers.
The 3.2kg turkey comes in at £2.81 per kg, compared to around £3.30 per kg or more for a frozen turkey and more than £6 for the fresh alternative. MuscleFood.com says it will feed an average family of between four to five people with little wastage.
Darren Beale from MuscleFood.com said: “Turkey is a must on the festive table and a fresh bird is certainly a lot more appealing than the frozen alternative. However, we understand that not everyone can afford to buy a fresh turkey at Christmas on top of everything else they shell out for. That’s why we’ve slashed the price to just £9. That price matches the cheapest frozen alternative and is plenty to feed an average family.”
