Retailer Lesley Brown says she is on target to achieve sales increases envisaged by Booker chief executive Charles Wilson.
In June last year Wilson visited as part of National Independents’ Week, and gave himself the challenge of increasing profitability of Bill and Lesley Brown’s store at Frankmarsh, Barnstaple, by pound;10,000 in the following 18 months.
Lesley said there had been an increase on last year’s sales and she was positive about the future despite her feelings that 2008 will be a tough year.
Since Wilson’s visit various tips and ideas have been put into practice in the store, and they stock the full range of Booker’s Euro Shopper. But the main thing Lesley has benefited from is the confidence to look at everything they were doing and to get in contact with suppliers. She has secured new equipment and talked through issues.
Discussions with Wilson also confirmed Lesley’s belief that an involvement in the community was the way forward for the store.
“We’ve learnt a lot in the last six months. Things that would have been useful to know when we first started,” Lesley said.
Wilson commented: “Lesley and Bill are a hard working pillar of their community. It is a real privilege to have the opportunity to work with them.”
