Unilever’s Partners for Growth programme is continuing to build support from independent retailers five years after its formation.

The programme was launched by Unilever in 2004 to provide impartial advice for independent retailers on nine categories. It was set up in response to research by him! which showed that many retailers were losing sales because of lack of availability or poor visibility of products.

A survey of 1,000 independent retailers found that awareness of the programme had increased from 52% to 61% between 2007 and 2008, while 81% recognised it as independent and fair.

As a result of the impact it has had in the UK, Unilever has taken the decision to roll out the programme to the Republic of Ireland.

Stephen Moodie, Unilever’s customer director for the convenience sector, said Unilever’s investment in the programme was now approaching pound;2m.
