New store recruits and customer-focussed initiatives give Spar UK sales a welcome boost

Spar UK’s retail sales figures for 2016 rose by 8.5% to £2.84 bn, thanks to a surge of new retailers, a fresh marketing approach and a strong focus on foodservice, according to the symbol group.

The symbol group retailer added 186 new stores last year to bring numbers to 2,620, helping to drive up sales per m2 by 4.2%. It also now boasts the position of being the UK largest forecourt retailer “with significant growth coming from multi-site partners in 2016″.

Robinson put the group’s success down to its range of customer-focused initiatives, such as the Daily Deli foodservice offer and more fresh food, including butchery.
