Irish wholesale and retail group Musgrave is understood to be in discussions with Alliance Boots about stocking its food products in the high street chemist’s stores. Boots is rumoured to be offering evening meals in its stores later this year.
According to the London Evening Standard newspaper Musgrave confirmed the discussions had taken place with Alliance Boots. Musgrave supplies Londis and Budgens in the UK, as well as a number of big retail chains in Ireland.
Boots ended its partnership with Waitrose to sell each other’s products in one another’s stores earlier this year after the pilot failed to meet both the retailers’ expectations.
The health and beauty retailer declined to comment as Wholesale News went to press, but it is understood Boots has been in talks with “several parties” on the subject.
Boots announced last month that is merging with US pharmacy chain Walgreens, which is set to buy 45% of Alliance Boots for $6.7bn (£4.3bn).
