The FWD My Shop Is Your Shop (MSYS) special festive Caring At Christmas campaign scored a hit with a Northamptonshire independent store run by enthusiastic supporters of the activity.
Sylvia and David Winter, at the Creaton Post Office, always put on lots of festive activity for their customers, ranging from special promotions to supporting local food producers, selling Russian Dolls and helping to light up the local High Street.
They produce the local Creaton Calendar for sale at Christmas, offer mulled wine to shoppers, hold raffles, organise orders and deliveries of Christmas trees – the Christmas opportunity for trading and community involvement is grasped to the full.
The business is a convenience store and newsagents and an important amenity in the village. It has been run by the Winters for 20 years and has been voted the Best Post Office and Shop in the county by the Countryside Alliance.
As part of the MSYS Caring At Christmas campaign – designed to teach and encourage independents to obtain local media coverage in the festive season – a special MSYS hamper was delivered to the Winters.
Sylvia said: “We decided to present the hamper to Gladys Gillett who is known as one the village’s friendliest faces and such a nice person who doesn’t really expect to receive anything at all.”
The Northampton Chronicle featured the story so making a contribution to the profile which the Winters are building for their business in the area.
Alan Toft, MSYS chairman, said: “Too many independent retailers are shy of working with the local media to achieve publicity for their business.
“MSYS is helping them to realise the potential contribution to trading that these activities can bring when they are publicised. It’s massively important.”
