Alan Toft has stepped down from his role as chairman of the successful My Shop is Your Shop campaign.
MSYS promotes independent newsagents and convenience stores and was created by Toft in 2004 when he was director general of the Federation of Wholesale Distributors, a post he held for 16 years. He was asked to continue running the annual scheme when John Murphy took over as head of the FWD in 2005.
Toft has spent more than 21 years working with the FWD and has been a tireless campaigner on the MYSY project. James Bielby, chief executive of the FWD, will take on the future management of MSYS.
FWD chairman Francis Ball said: “We thank Alan for the MSYS concept and execution over the past five years. The campaign is a force for good in the independent sector and we will build on what has been achieved.”
Toft said: “I would like to thank the council of the FWD for its support and the commitment of the independent retailers, wholesalers and suppliers who support the MSYS scheme. “
Last month Toft was honoured with the Fellowship of the NFRN (National Federation of Retail Newsagents) Award, in recognition of his efforts in championing the cause of the independent retailer.
