The FWD and supportive MPs and Lords who have formed a group within the Houses of Parliament, have been praised for their work by a Government minister. The comments were made by Jim Paice, minister for agriculture and food, during his keynote address at an event to mark the formation of the All Party Parliamentary Wholesale Group of MPs and Lords.
The FWD has since reported that the reception had the instant effect of engaging MPs with the issue in the sector.
It said several questions were tabled and answered. An FWD member has arranged for an MP to visit its depot, plus a supplier has invited an MP to visit its production facility.
James Bielby, chief executive of the FWD, said: “This is part of an encouragement programme taking the concerns of FWD members to parliamentarians and inviting them to see for themselves the work that wholesalers do on behalf of hundreds of small businesses in the MPs’ constituencies.”
The reception took place at the Houses of Parliament on October 25 and was attended by around 120 people including MPs, Lords, leaders of the wholesale industry and their suppliers. It was hosted by Dan Rogerson MP, who chairs the All Party Group.
