Maynards Bassetts goes bonkers

Maynards Bassetts, from Mondelez International, is launching a summer on-pack promotion competition designed to reflect the brand’s iconic “bonkers” personality by giving away “marvellously bonkers” days out and offering the chance to win flights to New Zealand.

There are three pairs of flights to be won, complete with £2,000 spending money, while 100 other consumers will win tickets to a “bonkers days out” in the UK or Ireland – such as the World Pea Championships in Witcham and rabbit show jumping in Bradford. They will also receive travel expenses and £50 spending money. 1000 others will win a voucher for a complimentary candy bag of their choice from the range.

Convenience retailers also have the chance to win one of six £100 Love2Shop vouchers with a great “Bonkers” display in their store. For a chance to win they should upload a photo of their Maynards Bassetts promotional bags display between May 15, 2017 and July 31, 2017 on to be entered into the prize draw. There will be six winners in total.

Mondelez says Maynards Bassetts is driving growth in the candy bags category, up +7.4% in value and penetration increasing by +2.2pp in the latest 12 weeks [The Nielsen Company, Total Value MAT to w/e 28.01.17] . This new promotion aims to drive candy bag sales during the summer months, particularly with adults aged 25+.

To help drive awareness, there will be a £6m total brand marketing campaign in 2017, which will include TV and high impact in-store activity throughout the summer.

Katie Bashford, senior brand manager for Maynards Bassetts, said: “Bonkers will target adults who have a silly side to them. It includes the same packs that consumers know and love, with the addition of a quirky competition to make their British summer memorable. The summer is a peak time for candy and with attractive on pack activations offering a strong opportunity to drive rate of sale, we hope to drive further category growth.”

Bonkers packs are available to wholesalers now for display from April 28. The promotion runs from May 1, until August 31, 2017.
