Manager of the month

The Nestlé Rowntree Manager of the Month for January is awarded to Sarwar Kiyani, assistant manager at Bestway in Romford.

Bestway in Romford has been open since 1985, serving 600 customers every week ranging from CTNs to off licenses and catering businesses.

Kiyani joined Bestway in 1983, after eight years working for the Ford Motor Company on the production line. During his time at Bestway he helped open the Hackney branch where he learned all about the trade before joining the Romford branch in the late 1990s.

Kiyani has been recognised for this award for the all-round excellent service he aims to provide for the customers at Bestway in Romford.

A particular highlight recognised by Kiyani’s Nestlé Rowntree sales representative Paul Cecil has been his execution of the current KitKash promotion. His high impact display at the front of depot has already seen a 27% uplift in sales of the brands featured – after only one week. With the TV advertising for KitKash running for five weeks from January 20, Kiyani expects sales to increase even further as consumer demand intensifies.

Recognising the importance excellent display plays in maximising the potential of a promotion or new product launch, Kiyani said: “Excellent displays encourage customers – through visibility and good pricing – to become aware of products and events they may normally pass by.”

As assistant manager, Kiyani is also responsible for overseeing promotions, staff motivation and control of the day-to-day running of the depot in the manager’s absence. His positive attitude and desire to continually improve customer service is reflected throughout his team.

The merchandising of the confectionery aisle is first-class, and the merchandiser responsible is always 100% on top of rotation and shows a great deal of pride in his displays and fixtures. The main fixtures are always well stocked and faced, with the right amount of space dedicated to big brands such as KitKat and Aero.

Outside of work Kiyani’s big passion is cricket, supporting the Pakistan team but also taking a keen interest in the England team, although he admits he still believes Australia are the best team in the world at present!
