The Nestl eacute; Rowntree Manager of the Month for May is awarded to Jason Quinn, general manager of Booker Cash Carry in Middleton. Quinn joined Booker immediately after leaving catering college and has worked as a manager at Booker branches across Yorkshire and Lancashire ever since. He became the general manager of Booker in Middleton 18 months ago.
Retaining customers and attracting new business is a key responsibility for Quinn, and he believes the high-quality customer service demonstrated throughout his branch by a helpful and knowledgeable team is fundamental in achieving this. Also key to the branch’s success is building strong relationships with suppliers; working together to provide the best range with the best prices and promotions for customers.
The Manager of the Month accolade, however, has been awarded to Quinn for his recognition and support of key activities from big brands. It is these activities that generate impressive sales uplifts for his branch, his customers and his suppliers, and Quinn gives them the focus they deserve to ensure their sales potential is maximised.
Most recently, for example, he has worked closely with Nestl eacute; Rowntree to support the fastest growing top 20 confectionery brand – Aero – and its launch of Aero Truffle. One of the key areas of support he provides is excellent display, ensuring high impact displays are placed in key locations so customers cannot miss them.
“Eye-catching displays increase awareness of promotions,” says Quinn. “With our recent Aero display we used balloons to attract shoppers’ attention. As a result customers who were not planning on buying confectionery and may have normally walked right past the aisle, were stopping to look at what the balloons were for and what promotion they were highlighting.”
In addition, Quinn contacted customers directly to raise awareness of the promotion so they didn’t miss out.
This level of support has ensured that already in 2006 both Nestl eacute; Rowntree and the total confectionery category have increased their sales in his branch.
Quinn is now looking forward to achieving the same success with Nestl eacute; Rowntree’s World Cup soccer-themed promotion. A prime, front-of-branch display, featuring brands such as KitKat and Aero, will be in place from May.
