The Nestl eacute; Rowntree Manager of the Month Award for June has been presented to Tony Johnson, manager of the Bestway depot at Darwen in Lancashire.
Johnson has been with Bestway for three years, having previously spent his career working in retail. After two years at the Stockport depot, he has now been in charge of the Darwen depot for 12 months. The depot has been open for four years, and one of Johnson’s main roles is to grow the business through both existing customers and potential new customers.
Johnson has been recognised for this award for his innovative approach to growing his confectionery business and in particular the successful launch of the new Heaven brand in his depot.
Heaven is major new connoisseur chocolate brand from Nestl eacute; Rowntree. It is a combination of finest quality Swiss chocolate with a range of indulgent soft centres. It’s available in a range of five 100g filled blocks (Dark Truffle, Milk Truffle, Milk Orange Truffle, Caf eacute; Latte and Hazelnut Cr egrave;me), and three Perles gift packs (Dark Truffle, Caramel Latte and Praline), plus a Perles mini gift pack in Dark Truffle flavour.
Johnson worked closely with his Nestl eacute; Rowntree sales development executive Tony Robson to ensure the flawless execution of the Heaven launch.
His first action was to ensure the customers coming into the depot could not miss Heaven, by creating high impact displays right at the time of launch. At the same time, Johnson sent his top 60 customers a block of the new chocolate to try for themselves. This succeeded in helping them understand what the product was all about, and why their shoppers would buy it.
Johnson also wanted to ensure his delivered customers didn’t miss out on the launch. So he sent out an outer of Heaven to each of his top customers with their orders, with the understanding that if they did not want it they could send it back without having to pay. A fantastic 100% of retailers chose to take the outer for their store. This generated pound;1,000 additional sales for Bestway Darwen, and what’s more, an additional pound;1,000 has since been generated with those retailers returning to buy more Heaven.
Outside of work Johnson enjoys all types of sport, in particular Rugby League, and he has been a life long supporter of Bradford Bulls.
