Manager of the month

The Nestl eacute; Rowntree Manager of the Month for October is awarded to Naim Khan, depot manager of Bestway Cash Carry in Luton.

Khan has worked for Bestway for more than 15 years. He started out as a supervisor at the Luton depot before moving to other Bestway depots, including Abbey Road, to gain experience. He returned to Luton as depot manager in 2002. The depot itself opened in 1991 and serves around 3,000 customers each week.

Khan puts his customers at the heart of everything the depot does. He can frequently be found on the depot floor attending to their needs and listening to any queries and issues they may have. He is also keen to work closely with suppliers to develop new and better ways of meeting customers needs, and has built up an excellent rapport with his Nestl eacute; Rowntree sales development executive Maria Anaya Saenz over the past 12 months.

Khan has been recognised for this month’s award in particular for working with Nestl eacute; Rowntree to ensure best-in-class displays. This is highlighted by the recent launch display of the Aero Bubbles Milk impulse bag.

Aero Bubbles Milk will be Nestl eacute; Rowntree’s biggest impulse launch of 2007. It is supported by a pound;4.2m media spend and is aimed at women looking for a more indulgent everyday treat. The launch follows the successful introduction of Aero Bubbles Peppermint to the impulse market in 2005. Aero Bubbles Peppermint became the biggest confectionery launch in 2005 and made Aero the fastest growing top 100 grocery brand (+33% in value).

Khan and his team ensured the importance of the launch was reflected in the high impact front of depot display, created with two and a half pallets of stock. This was designed to ensure that no customer entering the depot would miss the launch. The display was also in place on the first day Aero Bubbles Milk was available. It is important retailers stock new products early so that they benefit from the peak in sales generated by consumer excitement and media advertising.

This activity has helped ensure Nestl eacute; Rowntree sales have increased by 29%, which in turn is driving growth in the total category sales, which are up 14% already this year.

Outside of work Khan enjoys spending time with his family, and is heavily involved in his son’s football coaching and accompanying him to matches.
