Makeover is a double success

While Mandip Kaur has been in the independent retail industry for 35 years and has successfully run two convenience stores over that time, she realised that, despite her experience, she could still learn a thing or two.

Following a successfulTake Home Blueprint makeover at her first shop, Mandip asked the team to improve her second store, The Happy Shopper in the Denton Burn area of Newcastle. She is reaping the rewards by seeing her wine sales alone soar by 20%.

Mandip said: “Having owned and run the shop for over 30 years I have built up a good and loyal customer base and therefore thought I had reached the store’s maximum potential.

“However, once I had the Blueprint team re-merchandise my first shop, I realised that my second shop could also benefit and that it might help to reinvigorate sales here – and it has.”

Shekila and Annesa Thomson, the Take Home Blueprint regional representatives for the North East, began by looking at Mandip’s stocking list. While her off licence section was reasonably small, she had a good core range of stock. Shekila and Annesa made recommendations of brands that she was missing which are featured on the Blueprint planograms that they thought she might benefit from stocking.

Mandip said: “The recommendations that the girls made have had a tremendous impact on my store. The new brands that they recommended I get in have really taken off in sales and the layout and the presentation of the store is fantastic.

“The wines are now blocked by country and colour and our customers love it. They have even asked me if I have increased the range as the way it looks makes the most of all the brands so it appears bigger.”

ARTDs has also taken off. Previously to the Blueprint team coming in, Mandip had the ARTDs mixed in with other categories and no real order to the display. She was also struggling with the volume of brands available and had a large range made up of many different brands, varieties and flavours.

Mandip said: “The ARTDs are now blocked together and the whole range is now easily seen by the customers which has helped increase sales.

“The Blueprint standards has just raised the whole look of the store, and my customers’ response has been amazing. I can’t recommend enough the services of the Blueprint team. Not only were they very professional and polite, but it’s like they have given my store a spring clean.”
