A new fleet of lorries is being introduced by Musgrave Retail Partners GB to deliver to members of its Londis symbol group.
The multi million pound, 72-piece fleet will enhance the group’s chilled delivery capability, and has been selected for the highest environmental standards.
The units comprise tractors, trailers and rigid vehicles. The Mercedes Benz tractor units have engines that meet stringent emission standards and offer improved fuel efficiency. The trailers, manufactured by Schmitz Cargobull, are also 99% recyclable.
The new lorries represent a partial replacement of the 400-strong fleet operated by Musgrave Retail Partners GB for its Londis and Budgens stores and it says they will play a key part in its pledge to save 1.3 million road miles this year through its backhauling network scheme announced in January.
Scott Wharton, Musgrave Retail Partners GB supply chain director, said: “It is important to us that we offer Londis retailers a first class service from the moment they place their order until it is delivered. I’m delighted that we can now offer a complete service for fresh produce while reducing the impact of our operations on the environment. We’ve recently revolutionised our methods of delivery and this new fleet of lorries will underpin our latest procedures.”
