Members of wholesale buying co-operative Sterling Supergroup and their suppliers enjoyed a successful Annual Conference, AGM amp; Trade Exhibition in Shropshire last month.
Among the highlights of the year was the growth – despite a number of members leaving – of the Sterling Caterers Essentials own-brand.
Vanessa Cooper, chief executive, explained that Sterling had “experienced many changes over the years” and while she was “sorry to see the resignation of members at any time” the Group, whilst remaining true to its established core values and business principles, had to continue to ensure it represented and met the requirements of its membership as a whole.
“Regrettably change at any time may not suit everyone but the success of the Group is measured by the growing appeal of its own-brand, the support of its growing membership and suppliers as well as the increasing appeal to its members of the business negotiated for their benefit,” she said.
She added she was “overwhelmed by the positive response and support from the supplier base” as well as existing members. She announced that Eagle Foods Ltd, McCartney Foodservice amp; Mack Ship Stores had recently joined and that there were applications from other potential new members presently under consideration.
Cooper also announced that the new chairman of the Group would be Trevor Stimpson, current chairman and MD of Waterdene Foodservice Ltd, who was the unanimous choice of the Board. has been in the food industry since 1966 and has held senior management positions within Ross Foods, PH Foods, Bejam and Van den Broeke (now Lutosa) prior to forming Waterdene Foodservice, who joined Sterling some 8 years ago.
“2013 will be another challenging year for everyone in the industry but the Sterling Supergroup is without doubt well set up to meet the challenges ahead and looks to the future with confidence amp; enthusiasm throughout the membership,” said Cooper.
