METRO C C UP 7%
Metro Cash Carry, the parent company of Makro, reported sales up 7% in the second quarter to E6.9bn.
However it said business was affected by unfavorable market trends in Great Britain and the Netherlands and total sales in Western Europe fell 0.7% to E3.08 bn.

BOOKER CHARITY
Booker has chosen Marie Curie Cancer Care as its charity of the year. The fundraising target set for the year is £100,000, and the business will be supporting the cause with future events including collections for Marie Curie shops, the Great Daffodil Appeal and local community events.

DIRECTIVE DELAY
Collection and recycling of waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) will be the responsibility of manufacturers and retailers of the equipment from June 2006, the government has announced. It said it had postponed the implementation date for the WEEE Directive until June 2006 in the light of the preparations needed for the legislation.

NAME CHANGE
Interbrew UK has changed its name to InBev UK. The name change has been introduced following the UK brewer’s parent company, Interbrew SA, combining with the South American brewer AmBev, to create InBev. InBev UK’s trading companies in Northern Ireland (trading as Bass Ireland) and the Republic of Ireland (currently known as Interbrew Ireland) have changed their names to InBev Ireland Limited and InBev Ireland, respectively.
Tennent Caledonian Breweries, which still incorporates the name of the Tennent family who began brewing in Glasgow in 1740, will be retained as the trading name for InBev UK’s business in Scotland.
