Imperial Tobacco this week announced two new products aimed at smokers looking for value for money.
The first is Player’s Gold Leaf in a 9g pouch. Complete with medium-weight papers, Gold Leaf 9g will make around 22 hand-rolled cigarettes for less than £3.
Gold Leaf 9g pouches will have an RRP of £2.79, with standard and price-marked packs (PMPs) available while stocks last. 12.5g, 25g and 50g packs of Gold Leaf will continue to be available.
Ryan Hopkins, senior brand manager for fine cut tobacco at Imperial, said that the new pack would be the lowest-priced RYO tobacco product currently on the market.
“9g is an ideal product for adult smokers to trial Gold Leaf, or for those who are seeking better value and to reduce their outlay on tobacco,” he said.
Imperial is also broadening its best-selling JPS Silver range with new JPS Duo, a capsule cigarette priced at £6.64 for a pack of 20 King Size while stocks last (PMPs and standard packs will be available). Thereafter they will be sold with a recommended 3p premium over the JPS King Size range of £6.89.
Capsule or “crushball” cigarettes now enjoy a 2.23% share of the cigarette market, up from just 0.69% a year ago.
Both new launches will be supported with in-depot activity.
