Healthy eating is starting to have an impact in and out of the home

The role of the Government in highlighting the issues surrounding healthy eating, and forcing change, were highlighted by Ian Crawford, group commercial director of 3663.

He said healthy eating is becoming a key focus for consumers and this is starting to have an impact on their food and lifestyle both in and out of the home.

Crawford said: “Only wholesalers have the complete view of the market and the requirements of both the consumer and the caterer. They are able to fully understand the detail of the new legislation and guidelines as it applies to complete menus, and they are able to translate this into practical advice and help for the caterer.”

He spoke about the growing issue of origin of product and the introduction by 3663 of over 100 new small suppliers who supply over 500 products. For example, 3663 can now provide Suffolk Meadow cream and yoghurts to East Anglia.

Crawford said: “We believe that only manufacturers who understand and respond to these changes and indeed work with wholesalers to provide choice in a changing market, will thrive in the future.” He urged manufacturers to recognise the part they need to play.
