Spar Gotham has more than doubled its turnover since joining AF Blakemore and is now set to expand.
The Nottingham-based outlet, owned and operated by Jane Samson and her partner Alan Towle, started trading independently nine years ago mainly selling tobacco, confectionary and a restricted range of groceries.
Early next year will see it undergo a rebuild and refit to offer a greater variety of products, hot food, a large chilled range and Post Office services. The store is currently the only convenience offer within two miles.
Since joining Spar three years ago the business has gone from strength-to-strength. Sales have now grown to £15,000 per week. Despite the size of the store and most of the fixtures remaining the same.
Jayne said: “We made the decision to join Spar so that we could fully exploit the potential in the area and benefit from the help that Blakemore’s can offer with range, merchandising, store layout and brand perception.”
Blakemore Trade Partners recruitment manager Oliver Walters commented: “It is the hard work and drive shown by Alan and Jayne together with persistent marketing and community spirit that has been the driving force behind the success of the store.
“Once developed, Spar Gotham will stand as an excellent example of a community store within the heart of the community.”
