Booker launches battery service

Published:  27 January, 2010

Booker has launched a service to help retailers with new battery legislation, which applies from February 1. After that date all retailers who sell more than 32kg of portable batteries a year will be required to provide recycling facilities.

Booker, working with recycling company Valpak, will be offering customers a free of charge collection service and battery recycling kit which includes battery collection boxes and window stickers.

The new legislation requires retailers to take back used batteries from the public free of charge, as well as providing shoppers with information about the recycling facility.

“Booker is committed to helping our customers operate a successful business,” said Steve Fox, sales director – retail.  “Offering this service is another reason to drive footfall into stores.

“A battery recycling store locator, where shoppers can search for their nearest service is also available on www.recycle-more.co.uk, so stores can add themselves to this site to help raise awareness.”
