Brakes has announced the appointment of Philip Jansen to succeed Frank McKay as group chief executive officer.

Jansen joins Brakes from Sodexo Group where he was group chief operating officer and chief executive officer for the UK and Ireland.

He said: "Brakes is renowned for its excellent reputation, talented people and strong relationships. I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the business and build on its considerable success in the UK, Ireland and France."

Jansen will officially join the Brakes Board on February 1 2010 following McKay's retirement at the end of January.

Dwight Poler, chairman of Brakes, said: "Philip Jansen is an outstanding appointment who will build on Brakes' strong foundations. I would like to welcome him to the role and wish him every success as he takes the company into the next exciting phase of growth. On behalf of the board I would like to thank Frank McKay for his tremendous contribution to Brakes over many years."

McKay is currently an FWD council member and an invitation to join the council will be issued to Jansen following his appointment.
