So, 'It' girl Tara Palmer-Tomkinson is the new face of Heinz Baked Beans. That should put the wind up Branston and HP. Really, though, how much investment are brand owners committing to celebrity links, programme sponsorship and product placement these days. We need the money too, guys!

Only a year ago we were suffering dire supply problems with Cadbury Trebor Bassett. Now its £7m autumn investment is helping to put right recent wrongs and the 35p exclusive price-mark packs of CDM, Double Decker and Crunchie are flying out the door. Things are getting better.

We'll be giving extra support to Tyrells Potato Chips following its bold decision not to supply Tesco in favour of the independent trade. It deserves it.

You know that winter is approaching when the porridge promotions begin. This year Quaker is giving away free scoops to help consumers measure the right quantities of milk and oat for the perfect bowl of porridge
