Fresh produce flies out of CJ Lang’s depot

CJ Lang Son says central distribution of fresh produce from its temperature-controlled depot in Dundee has really taken off and has generated pound;1.7m in turnover in the first year, with more than 250,000 cases sold to Spar retailers in Scotland.

In a bid to continue the momentum it has issued a new Fresh Produce Directory to all its Spar customers. It outlines the range, which consists of about 100 lines of loose and pre-packed fruit and vegetables, and retailers have the choice whether to order electronically or via telesales.

The directory also includes a best practice manual with advice on receiving, displaying and caring for fresh produce. It also advises about stock rotation, merchandising, storage and pricing, and provides core ranging information and planograms.

To cater for growth in the Features > Business, CJ Lang is constructing a new depot, scheduled for completion next January, which will include a 28,000sq ft, energy efficient, temperature-controlled facility, and a 30,000sq ft extension to the existing ambient warehouse.
