FWD has scored a victory in its battle to allow wholesalers to continue displaying tobacco in any quantity, and however they like, as long as it is aimed at trade buyers.
The impending ban on consumer facing retail displays is a fait accompli, and there had been suggestions that wholesalers selling tobacco for B2B purposes could also be covered by the outlawing of showing tobacco products prior to sale.
But a successful intervention by FWD with the Department of Health has ensured that wholesalers will still be able to display under provision in the Health Act 2009.
FWD chief executive James Bielby also secured assurances from DH’s tobacco programme manager, Andrew Black, that current provisions allowing B2B tobacco advertising would remain in place.
Meanwhile, in the continuing discussions on duty fraud, FWD has met with HMRC for an update on what next steps should be taken to stamp out rogue traders.
