Country Range Group, which represents 16 independent wholesale food suppliers operating from 25 depots throughout the UK and Channel Islands, has joined the Federation of Wholesale Distributors (the UK association for food and drinks wholesalers) as a full member.
The Country Range’s members offer a package based on local knowledge and service, flexibility and comprehensive product offering, including the Country Range brand with regular promotions across ambient, chilled, frozen and non-food categories.
Country Range Managing Director Coral Rose (pictured) said: “We are very pleased to be a part of FWD. It has done some great work in recent years raising the profile of the wholesale sector and its customers. It has helped to persuade supplier companies to invest in the channel and to realise the huge opportunities they have to increase sales into catering and foodservice SMEs. Joining FWD also helps to ensure that our voice and those of our customers are heard in the formulation of Government policy and legislation.”
FWD chief executive James Bielby added: “Country Range is an example of how wholesalers are working together to provide a better service to their customers, in the same way that FWD brings the entire sector together to improve choice to consumers. We are delighted to have them on board as a full member of the Federation.”
FWD represents its members’ interests in Whitehall, Westminster and Brussels. It also promotes the distribution channel to suppliers, the public, and the hundreds of thousands of small businesses which its members supply and support. FWD, whose members also include 3663, Brakes and Booker, co-ordinated the sector’s response to last year’s horsemeat issue, and is currently working with Defra on food issues including the Food Information to Consumer regulations, changes to packaging requirements and supply chain integrity. It is overseeing the development of a market analysis for the foodservice sector which will be published later this year.
