Confex has added Westminster Foods and Adams Cash and Carry in Peterborough to its member list – making up 23 new members to join the group since 2011.
The group, which this year marked its 40th in Features > Business, also reported that half year figures showed group growth up 11.6%, with foodservice driving this with a rise of 23%. Foodservice now makes up 53% of total trade with particular emphasis on chilled and frozen.
“We are developing more commodity lines under the brand of ‘Simply’ to enable our wholesalers to counteract global factors” said Tom Gittins, business development manager. He pointed to Simply Cooking Oil, which launched in September last year and now has £2m.
The group launched a newly designed website at the start of the year, which includes on-line ordering. It also continues to roll out its “esavers” programme, which gives members the ability to create a product brochure personalised with their own monthly deals.
David Lunt, senior business development manager for Confex, added: “We have nearly completed one of the toughest trading years of late, whilst at the same time we have achieved a huge amount to improve our member services.”
