In advance of Fairtrade Fortnight, Compass Group UK amp; Ireland has launched its Fairtrade Ambassador Scheme, committing to appointing a number of Fairtrade ambassadors from across the business.
The ambassadors will highlight the importance of ethical sourcing and help to drive Fairtrade initiatives in Compass sites across the UK.
Ian Sarson, group managing director for Compass Group UK amp; Ireland, said: “Our commitment to Fairtrade is helping farmers, workers and their families throughout developing countries improve their livelihoods, helping them get a better deal for their products. Over the last few years we have achieved a number of industry firsts including swapping to 100% Fairtrade sugar and bananas and I am extremely proud of our achievements to date.
It’s now time to raise the bar further and through the launch of the Fairtrade Ambassadors Scheme our aim is to engage all of our employees and encourage them to get involved and take important steps for Fairtrade, further supporting these communities across the globe.”
Ashish Deo, commercial director of the Fairtrade Foundation, said: “This exciting step by Compass will drive engagement and commitment to Fairtrade throughout their business. This approach allows real Fairtrade supporters within the Compass business to demonstrate to others how to follow their example, ultimately driving sales of Fairtrade products throughout the business and delivering real Impact for producers.”
Fairtrade Fortnight runs from 27 February to 11 March.
