CJ Lang Son, the Spar wholesaler for Scotland, has announced a pound;5m investment in a new Dundee distribution depot.
The business is extending its Longtown Road ambient distribution centre to incorporate its chilled and frozen operation from Clepington Road.
A 30,000sq ft extension is being added to the existing ambient warehouse, with completion expected by December 2007.
Following that a 28,000sq ft temperature controlled area will be built with an estimated completion of January 2009.
David Walker, chief executive of CJ Lang Son, said the expansion was expected to boost turnover which was already in excess of pound;300m.
He said: “Our decision to invest in a new depot comes at a time of very strong growth in the fresh and chilled market.
“We must remain efficient and use the latest technology to push our business forward while taking fresh foods to a new level. There are many reasons for the depot extension and bringing the whole distribution operation together on one site.
“All areas of the business will benefit greatly.”
